What makes an admissions officer say yes?

Most students spend years building college applications without ever putting themselves in the shoes of the admissions officer reading their file. They're told to join more clubs, volunteer more hours, pursue leadership positions, and "follow their passion." While none of this advice is inherently wrong, millions of other students are hearing the exact same thing. The result is that many students end up with applications that look impressive on paper but are like 95% of the others: simply forgettable. I've read countless applications about immigration hardships and facing adversity in sports. This simply doesn't cut it in today's ultra competitive admissions environment. At Dixit Way, I take a different approach.Rather than dwelling on perfection, I focus on first principles.Stripping down the complexities of the admissions process to the basics: who you are and what makes you unique. What makes an admissions officer remember a student? What separates a compelling applicant from a forgettable one? What story is an application communicating? Those questions shape every recommendation I make, whether we're discussing extracurricular activities, essays, test preparation, or college selection. The goal is not to manufacture an impressive applicant. The goal is to help students shine a light on their strengths, speak to their authenticity, and deliver their story in the most compelling way possible.

About Me

I’m Yash Dixit, founder of Dixit Way. I earned my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan ('23) and later completed my master's degree at the University of Southern California ('25). Today, I work as an engineer at Boeing while helping students successfully navigate one of the most competitive admissions environments in history.Academically, I scored a 35 ACT and a 1530 SAT. Professionally, I've spent 4 years as a freelance tutor helping students improve test scores and strengthen essays while changing their approach to college admissions for the better. Most importantly, I don't believe in one-size-fits-all advice.Every student has different strengths.Every student has a different story. The strategy should reflect that.

The internet is full of admissions advice, much of it contradictory. One person says test scores matter. Another says they don't. One person says leadership is everything. Test Score Improvement: $75/hour

Most students spend far too much time studying inefficiently.Success on standardized tests is rarely about grinding more practice questions on Khan Academy. It's about understanding the types of questions that show up on the exam, identifying weaknesses, and drilling specific concepts. At Dixit Way, we've analyzed real past SAT and ACT tests and developed question categories with their respective solution frameworks. Together, we'll go through a practice test and identify categorical weaknesses. I tutor you on the approach behind problem solving under time pressure for missed categories, allowing you to have confidence in your ability on test day.Depending on your goals, we'll generate a custom timeline to get you where you need to be before test day.

Meet Yash Dixit

My interest in college admissions started with a simple question:Why do some students get admitted while others don't?At first, I approached that question the same way most students do. I looked at GPA, test scores, extracurricular activities, acceptance rates, and rankings. But over time, I became more interested in what was happening beneath the surface. What are admissions officers actually trying to identify? Why are some essays unforgettable while others are instantly forgotten? Why do some students with lower statistics outperform students with stronger numbers? Those questions eventually shaped the philosophy behind Dixit Way.I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering before earning my master's degree from the University of Southern California in 2025. Today, I work as an engineer at Boeing, where solving complex problems often requires breaking them down into their most fundamental components. That same mindset guides my approach to admissions.I don't believe in admissions folklore.I don't believe in copying what everyone else is doing. And I don't believe that students need to become someone they're not in order to earn admission to great schools.I believe every student has a unique story. My job is to help them discover their authenticity and communicate it effectively. If you're looking for thoughtful and honest guidance, I'd love the opportunity to help.
